Opening Reception: November 15, 5pm 8pm
Old Coventry Village, October 22, 2008 -- Muse Le Belle Artiste Gallery and Arts Center is proud to announce that their upcoming exhibition entitledTogether will be a selection of paintings by award-winning landscape artists David and Pamela Lussier. It will open November 15 with a reception from 5-8 pm and will remain on view through December 31.
The Students of Shauna Shane is currently on exhibition through November 7.
David Lussier is a plein air artist whose landscapes of autumn hillsides, muted spring days or fishing boats under a hazy summer sky convey his passion for New England and for fine art. He has dedicated himself not only to his profession, but also to being a steward for the landscape that inspires him and to sharing his love for his craft with others. He creates his landscapes in a broad-brush bravura style using a narrow palette of colors. He is a true believer that less is more in painting and the brushstroke is an artwork's essence.
Pamela Simpson Lussier is a contemporary painter who weaves together in her work impressionist brush strokes and realism. A graduate of the Art Institute of Boston, she was influenced by the works of Edgar Degas, Mary Cassatt, and especially Ingres and his ability to turn form with a line. Pam's background in sculpture is evident in her oil paintings, which are rich in tactile language and convey a tangible feeling of space and form with both line and color.
The Lussiers have been painting and teaching classes and workshops for more than twenty years. Their work has been exhibited extensively and is included in many private collections. They live in Woodstock with their six children.
Muse Le Belle Artiste will host "The Principles of Landscape Painting: A Weekend Workshop" conducted by the Lussiers on November 15 & 16, 10 am - 5 pm each day. They will emphasize their basic approach to oil painting- from mixing five tubed colors into their standard twelve color landscape palette, to composition and massing of darks and lights, and the painting process itself. This course is designed for beginners, advanced painters or artists looking for a refresher. Each day includes demonstrations, individual guidance and a group critique. The cost of the workshop is $225. To register, call Laurie Whitehead 860-498-0307.
