Event: The Not-So-Quiet Corner Date: February 4th to April 11th, 2010. Barbara Lussier, Winter Village Coventry, CT, January 11, 2010 -- Laurie Bidwell Whitehead, founder and owner of Coventry s Muse Le Belle Artiste Gallery, is out to demonstrate that there is plenty of life in northeast Connecticut, even in the coldest winter months, with the February 4th opening of The Not-So-Quiet Corner. The salon-style exhibition showcases works by New England artists including: Barbara Lussier, landscape painter Robert Noreika, artist/illustrator Suzanne Howes-Stevens, oil painter Michael Allison, woodturner Diane Fitzgerald Wyant, plein air painter George Jacobi, photographer / collage artist William McCarthy, oil painter The exhibition is on view February 4 - April 11, 2010 at the gallery at 1141 Main Street, a historic building in the historic district of Old Coventry Village. The public is invited to a reception on Sunday, March 7, from 2 to 4 pm. Barbara Lussier is one of the most prominent plein air impressionist artists working today. Her style has been described as poetry and her paintings consistently take top honors in art shows nationwide. Her painting Chasing the Light was awarded Top 15% Distinction at the 2009 Fine Art Views Painting Competition. Robert Noreika is a national award-winning artist and illustrator of twelve children s books whose passion for art is matched by a natural talent to paint a variety of subjects including expressive coastal scenes, intimate woodland pictorials and seasonal treks through the countryside. The Paier School of Art graduate finds inspiration in boyhood memories of fishing and catching turtles and frogs. Suzanne Howes-Stevens draws inspiration from the marshes and wetlands of New England when she layers oil-painted images over topographical maps and nautical charts. Her work is represented in numerous private and public collections including AT&T, Fidelity, U.S. Trust Co., Aetna, Canyon Ranch, and University of Connecticut Health Center. Michael Allison has worked with wood for most of his adult life, including 16 years as a fretted instrument builder, restorer and repairman. In 1997 he began turning wood into pleasing forms that displayed the dramatic, natural features of the wood. With increased technical skill, the forms became more complex while the work was still, to quote him, round and brown. Diane Fitzgerald Wyant is a native New Englander and a former art student at ECSU, CCSU, UConn and The Wadsworth Atheneum. Her plein air paintings illuminate local and faraway landscapes; her portraits and sculpture celebrate form and spirit; her mixed media pieces have been described as "off the wall." George Jacobi finds that the artistic expression of something he cares about "humanity s relation to the natural world or to ourselves, is a fierce driving force. While some people find solving puzzles brings them alive, George find playing in two or three dimensions with line, shape, and color is an unavoidable part of life. William McCarthy creates memorable paintings that draw the viewer into an ethereal, spiritual place, reminding us of places we have often seen, but have seldom noticed. He was selected as a visiting artist of the prestigious Weir Farm in Wilton and has been guest artist at the Center for Contemporary Printmaking in Norwalk.
